Join us for the Mill Stone Adventure Run in historic Fort Mill, SC, a race aimed at NOVICE Adventure Racers and put on by Fort Mill Adventure Runs.
Using a smartphone app for SELF-TIMING AND SCORING, runners will race using only a provided course map. There are no flags or course markings in the field. GPS tracks may be recorded, but GPS cannot be used to find your way around the course — this is a navigation race, and you should use only your map and magnetic compass.
“The course” consists of an orienteering-style topographic map and circles indicating Control Points (CPs, or “controls.”) The object of the race is to reach all of the CPs and return to the Finish in the shortest amount of time. You do not have to reach all CPs to garner a result, and the leader board will reflect how many you reached and in what elapsed time. There are no DNFs!
The low fee of $20 gets you access to the course map and the tracking software. Tutorials for loading, signing in to, and using the app are on the registration page. The app uses basic GPS navigation to track your location. When you reach a control point, indicated by the red dots on the map, it marks you off at that point and makes an audible tone (it’s festive.) When all points are located, returning to the finish point will end the run and your results will be listed on the leader board.
Proceeds from the run will go to the Historic Paradise Foundation, whose mission is to Proactively Preserve People & Property of Paradise of Fort Mill.
