WHY -Why not?
HOW – Run or walk your choice of FOUR unique courses. A smartphone app running silently in your pocket tracks your score and keeps time and results. This is a navigation race — no GPS navigating allowed!
COURSE MAPS – Registrants will receive a waterproof copy of their desired course map(s) from Dan
HOW MUCH – Adults are $25. Accompanied kids are free.
OVERVIEW
Venture Crew and Northline Navigation are proud to present the Southern Pines Greenway Challenge, which will run from November 1st through the end of the year!
This is a unique event that respects everyone’s personal space in the era of COVID-19 social distancing, allows us to all run (or walk, hike, shimmy, Prancercize, etc) the same course and then compare results (and routes)… except, not all at once.
How it works — Upon registering, you will receive an email with specific instructions and arrangements to receive your course map(s.) You can go ANY TIME during the two-month-long event to “run it on your own.”
When you launch the UsynligO app and begin the activity, the clock is ticking and you’ll travel to as many checkpoints marked on the map as fast as you can. The triangle symbol is the Start, and the double circle symbol is the Finish. Checkpoints are marked as circles at specific features in the landscape. When you arrive at a checkpoint, the app (running silently in your pocket) senses your position via GPS and marks your visit with a snazzy little tune to indicate that you’ve FOUND IT. High five yourself, and carry on to the next one!

Four distinct courses to choose from! You can run them all, as many times as you wish, possibly improving your time (but only your final attempt’s time will count!)
- Short course – “all in any order” format – find as many of the checkpoints as you wish, in any order. Lowest time to reach all checkpoints and return to the finish wins.
- Short course – “classic orienteering” format – find the checkpoints in the prescribed order, and the lowest time wins. Going out of order or missing a point means disqualification. Course length is 7.9Km, and you can expect to run 6-8 miles.
- Long course – “all in any order” format.
- Long course – “classic orienteering” format – find the checkpoints in the prescribed order, and the lowest time wins. Going out of order or missing a point means disqualification. Course length is 18.1Km, and you can expect to run 13-18 miles.

All along the way, UsynligO records your tracks (just like Strava-type apps) and keeps score of how many (and which) points you have collected. At the end of your race, your score is displayed on the leader board in the app. You can also share your GPX route to yourself for uploading to Strava, or whatever social training platform you use.
So, put on your running shoes or bike helmet, your thinking caps, and your adventure outfits. Take lots of pictures, share your experiences with others, and HAVE FUN!

Is there any way to register for this today and complete the course tomorrow? It’s the greenway course in southern pines NC. Today is the 30th and tomorrow is the last day of the session. Is everything delivered electronically or is there something also delivered in the mail? Thanks!
